Outside My Window ~ 11.15.09
Outside My Window…is no wind and rain! Yeah! Fortunately, the low pressure system that caused us so many problems is well off the coast of North Carolina now. I woke up early and saw some blue skies while the sun was rising, but clouds took over. I just looked outside and it looks like that is attempting to burn off right now. We are at 55F right now with about 87% humidity, but the best part….winds are non-existent!! Our high is suppose to reach 72F today with partly cloudy skies. We are still under a coastal flood watch until around 10 this morning. I guess all the folks right on the coast have to get through at least one more high tide.
I am thinking…is it me or do the people in the Snuggie commercials look as if they have escaped from a monastery and dyed their robes different colors? No offense intended against the Monks and their choice of attire, but really….don’t the Snuggies look like monk robes?
I am thankful for…making it through this last nor’easter with very little damage. I did have a roof leak and several spots on my ceiling need attention. I’m hoping it was a result of wind driven rain and won’t be a regular occurrence. My leaks are minor compared to what some people experienced. I went out and about for the first time yesterday since the storm went through…….there is leaf debris everywhere, some trees and limbs down but I didn’t see any major damage in my immediate area.
From the kitchen…is my cup of coffee right at the moment. I’m still debating what I want to make for breakfast. I have a recipe for stuffed grape leaves that I really want to try to make for dinner soon, but I’m not having any luck finding grape leaves. This recipe reminds me of a dish I use to really enjoy at Vincent’s Restaurant when I lived in Dallas, Texas. My recipe experiment from last week, not what I had hoped for. I haven’t given up hope though….making a few changes and I think it will be something I will want to share.
I am creating…a liner for the wicker chest I bought at the estate sale in the spring. Yes, I have let it sit for that long. And I’m actually going to put a coat of paint on the chest today. 🙂 I will show before and after photos when it is done.
I am going…to be seriously debating on whether or not I will be continuing my soap and body care line. It is something I thoroughly enjoy doing but increasing costs for supplies and liability insurance is an issue I need to address. I may be taking things on my site in a different direction.
I am reading…not so much right now. I do have a Runner’s World magazine that I have been flipping through, but not much else.
I am hoping…that everyone who suffered damage during this last storm can get their lives back together as quickly as possible.
I am hearing…no howling winds!! 🙂 I’m actually hearing birds outside ~ possibly gathered around the newly filled bird feeders………the dull roar of a plane off in the distance…..the ticking of my many clocks.
Around the house…leaves that have been tracked in, clutter around my computer area and not so much laundry for a change.
Plans for the week include…taking Cailin to get her Learner’s Permit on Saturday (here we go again!)…..working on my Christmas gifts……adding more photos to Flickr. If you haven’t checked out my Flickr page recently, I have added some more photos. I’m almost up to date……..almost. And you may notice, I’m a wee bit obsessed with sunsets. 😉
One of my favorite things…is seeing bright, sun shiny skies after days and days of clouds and rain. My youngest was complaining yesterday about how cloudy it was yet again……I told her rumor had it the sun still existed and we would possibly see it today. When I started, we had gray skies……now blue with sun. Oh yea!!
A picture I’d like to share with you…I’m playing around with textures in my photos now. There are many, many free textures available on Flickr that you can use. Many of the creators request you link back to the page where you obtained it……for this photo, thanks to SkeletalMess for the use of his texture, Artificial Intelligence. Along with free textures, he has some fabulous photos as well. My photo today is an image of a lighthouse that was once part of the Buckroe Beach Amusement Park I spoke about in this post. The park is long gone, but the lighthouse still stands.

I’m such an idiot Debbie – there I’ve admitted it! 🙂
When I first started to read your blog I wasn’t au fait with the ‘Outside my Window’ theme so when I ‘landed’ I always thought It was a post I’d read earlier – and it sooo wasn’t! I love these little insights into your life Debbie, it reads like a conversation between friends – I plan to steal it this week and post a pale imitation, hope you don’t mind.
Btw, I made stuffed cabbage leaves this week but am looking forward to seeing your recipe.

Jennifer…..feel free to use the weekly update outline as your own. I modified this from one I saw on another blog. I have found this is a good way to let friends and family know what is going on. I will be looking forward to your updates!! 🙂

Gina……it may be a little longer than I anticipated on the chest. I have run into a bit of a snag ~ literally! The staples that attached the ugly liner are not cooperating! 🙂

Excellent post work Debbie, love the tinting and atmosphere, not to mention the beauty of lighthouses.
