Something wicked….
On this particular evening, as the sun was setting behind the clouds, the sky had an eerie kind of glow to it. I was at my mother’s house and snapping a few photos here and there when I walked by her now bare walnut tree and noticed this shot.
What I didn’t notice until afterwards was the group of birds flying towards me. I noticed them when I lowered the camera….I don’t remember seeing them prior to taking the photo, but there they were.
Large birds, normally gulls, are not unusual around my mother’s house. She lives near a large river, which feeds into the Chesapeake Bay. There are vultures that hang around that area sometimes. At times I have driven to her house to see them sitting en masse (the creepy way vultures hang about) on a church rooftop across from her house. To me, there is something creepy and unsettling about seeing a crowd of vultures lurking about.
At the moment I noticed those birds, a cold and eerie feeling swept over me and I recalled the words from William Shakespeare’s play, MacBeth ….
“By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes.”
I decided I had enough photos for the day…..time to go inside! 🙂

I also love the movie “Something Wicked This Way Comes” with Jason Robards. Haunting and beautiful picture.
