Outside My Window ~ 7.15.2012
Outside my window…is a hot and humid Sunday morning although we are inching towards the noon hour. Right now it is 86°F but feels like 94°F. The humidity is at 63% with an expected climb to at least 82% later this afternoon when thunderstorms are expected. I could tell the minute I opened the front door this morning it would be an indoor day today….I could feel the heat through the storm door. There is sunshine, blue skies with some large puffy clouds mixed in…a light, steady breeze moving the leaves on the trees. Our forecast high for today is 90° but is expected to drop down to 77°F when thunderstorms move through our area later this afternoon. It would be a decent day at the beach today before the storms…the water is warm but still cool enough to refresh you if you get too hot….although the jellyfish will be an issue with the water warming up. Nasty little buggers too…and it will really, really sting if they get you.
I am thinking about…how I have been away from my camera too long recently. Well, that isn’t exactly true, I have been taking a lot of practice shots using a new bracket I recently purchased to use for off camera flash. I got it to use with my speed light, but sorry ~ not sharing those images. 😀 Yea, not some of my best work, but I am getting much better with each shot as I adapt to using the bracket. It is quickly becoming a nice edition to my camera bag. As far as the slow down with images, I think a lot of that has to do with the horrible heat we have been experiencing….just not that excited to get out in it. I may just have to tough it out….could be a lot more early morning shoots in my future.
I am glad…that after months of taking my lunch every day to work, only eating out maybe once a month and basically not going any place that would cost money has paid off. I have finally scrimped and saved enough to get a macro lens by the end of the month. I do have some close up capabilities with my other lenses and a macro on my point and shoot, but this lens is going to be a lot more versatile than what I currently have. Picture me happy dancing all around.
I am going to…see if I can figure out Twitter. I finally signed up for an account and have it set up for the most part. I’m not sure how much use it will get but you can follow me @magikalfolk if you are interested. I’m only following six people right now….don’t want to get overwhelmed! 😀 I will also have the chance to win some of the fabulous prizes available during the creativeLIVE workshops…you had to have a twitter account to enter. I know I’m pretty late for the party but I suppose I was resisting yet another social media site to participate in. Speaking of participating on social media sites, I need to get to work on my Google+…I got that one set up and then promptly forgot about it….will have to see what I can do to fix that soon.
From my kitchen…is not much lately. Right now is fried egg, ham and cheese on an English muffin. I have good intentions of trying new things and making huge dinners every night but the fact is the girls are gone more often than home. I still like to cook for myself but I tend to fall back on old favorites. I think I will see what I can do to fix this too because honestly, I’m getting bored with old favorites. 😀
I am currently working on…a new business plan for my photography business. The workshops I have participated in the last couple of months have really helped me see where I need to make changes and how. I’m also working on downsizing my monthly expenses, both personal and business.
I am hoping…to get the bulk of my work caught up this week before I go on vacation Friday. It would be nice have a fairly clean desk when I leave for a week.
I am hearing…an episode of Supernatural on DVD….the quiet hum of my ceiling fan….the ticking of my many clocks….my daughter’s cell phone singing a song when it rings.
Plans for the week include…a pedicure on Monday….working from home on Tuesday….working on my business plan….getting ready for vacation the following week.
One of life’s little pleasures…working towards something you want and seeing it come to fruition.
From my camera…dipping into the archives….these are a few of the color images from an antique car show in Colonial Williamsburg a couple of months ago. I said a few of the color images because I processed the majority in black in white. Check back tomorrow for a post that will feature them.
