Outside My Window ~ 10.28.2012
Outside my window…is a dreary, rainy, windy, chilly, miserable morning. Yup, I think that about covers it. We are awaiting the arrival of Hurricane Sandy sometime tomorrow but because the storm is so huge, we are getting a taste of what is to come for now. The rain started late yesterday afternoon….the wind began about that time too. It rained all night….not torrential downpours, just a steady rain…and the wind really picked up the pace sometime in the early morning hours. Right now, at 9:00 Sunday morning, it is 59°F and the winds are at 19 mph, gusting to 32 mph from the northeast. The front that moved across the country earlier this week is expected to weaken which will allow Sandy to come ashore. Combine those two with a cold air mass from the north…you have a perfect storm….and oddly enough on these events are occurring about the same time as the other perfect storm that formed on October 28th, 1991. This type of event is considered worse than a hurricane because they normally last maybe a day…this is expected to last until Wednesday morning when the skies will began to clear in our area…a total of three days and four nights of rain and wind. Fortunately our lowest predicted temperature is 39°F Tuesday evening so this should only be a rain event for us. The worst of the weather will happen tomorrow…this is how it looked last night {image credit: The Weather Channel} ~
yup…pretty big storm.
The thing that I hate about this storm {well other than copious amounts of rain and wind} is the leaves were just beginning to change….just beginning to get colorful. Sure some have changed but the vast majority was finally coming around and now the wind and rain will get them all…..blown away. And since they were just beginning to change, that means the trees are still fully loaded with leaves….the better to grip the wind with my dear. I took these images Friday and Saturday with my iPhone ~ the leaves before the storm….
I am thinking…I need to get my mojo back…I just need to figure out where it went. I have been feeling off all year….just about everything has seemed off. And what makes me crazy is I can’t put my finger on exactly why ~ I think that is the one thing that bugs me the most. Generally I can say it is because of this or because of that….but I can’t do that this time….I can’t pin it down. Maybe it is because of the life changing events of the year….maybe I’m just getting older….maybe because it is an even number year {they generally aren’t my best years for some reason}….maybe because doomsday is scheduled four days before my birthday? I don’t know….but what I do know is it is making me a little bit crazy trying to figure it out. 😐
I am glad…that I stopped by the store earlier in the week and bought some coffee. It is tasting pretty good after my chilly and wet walk with the dog this morning. It is on days like today that dog ownership is not number one on my list.
I am going…to be wishing I had a rain slicker to use when I walk the dog by the time this storm is over with. To say I have gotten wet would be an understatement.
From my kitchen…is a recipe that is so ridiculously easy and tasty you will love it….Taco Cups. I can’t remember where I got this idea from but it is great for a quick dinner or snack. Here it is….brown and season the taco meat….place won ton wrappers in a muffin pan like so…
Fill with meat…
and top with cheese…
Bake 425° until cheese is melted and the edges begin to brown. Let them sit in the pan for a few minutes after you remove them from the oven to firm up a bit…otherwise they will be quite limp. That’s it…top with your favorite toppings and enjoy.
I am currently working on…a Halloween composite post, something similar to what I did last year. I’m also going to be working on the November free desktop calendars. Check back Wednesday and Thursday to see both.
I am hoping…the storm drains remain clear….my chimney hangs on….and the roof doesn’t leak.
I am hearing…rain….wind….my wind chimes singing to me….SuperNatural on television….Turbo snoring on the couch ~ this dog snores like an old man.
A recap of last week…is not much since I haven’t posted in a while so I will give you a rundown….took the car in to remove the foghorn from underneath the hood ~ after a hefty hunk of change and a few limbs, I was able to drive away noise free….and a photo shoot with the sweetest baby and her mama ~ here is a sneak peek of one….
Plans for the week include…hopefully not a lot of clean up from the storm….administrative leave from work on Monday because the campus is closed due to the storm….working from home Tuesday….posting new free desktop calendar for November.
One of life’s little pleasures…is finding Mighty Mango juice smoothie by Naked in extra large bottles at Costco. I add some of this juice, toss in a banana, a few ice cubes and blend in my bullet for a few minutes. The result is something very close to a Sunny Day smoothie from Tropical Smoothie. Best ever!
From my camera…is a little of this, a little of that ~ I know I have included a lot thus far, but just a few more. First up, Saturday before the rain started….
Turbo checking out the scents in the backyard recently….
A candle in the window…
Dogwood leaves…
A finally, a nearly full moon…
