The Birds

Does anyone remember the Alfred Hitchcock movie “The Birds”?  I can’t remember exactly when I first saw the movie….but let’s just say it has been a few years ago.  😉   It was more than likely at a weekend matinee where you could get in for free if you saved R C Cola bottle caps.  The theater was always full of kids waiting with bated breath to see the newest releases.  There was a  cartoon before the movie and they almost always had a double-feature (two movies ~ with an intermission in between).

I can’t tell you much about the day I saw the movie, but I can tell you it is one movie that has stayed with me forever.  As far as terror goes, it is extremely mild by today’s standards.  But it was a Hitchcock movie…which back then gave it a creep factor….and it was something that could very well happen.  There were no bizarre creatures that were going to devour you….the villian in this movie was common birds.  The plot line as shown on IMDB (Internet Movie DataBase) is:

A wealthy San Francisco playgirl pursues a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California town that slowly takes a turn for the bizarre when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack people there in increasing numbers and with increasing viciousness.

And attack they did ~ they particularly liked eyeballs!   There are more than a few scenes from that movie that still creep me out to this day.  Because it was a Hitchcock film, you never really find out why the birds began to attack.  You are left dangling at the end.   I think of that movie each and every time I see a bunch of birds gathering.  So when I arrived home and saw this scene…….it took me back to all those years ago, sitting in that dark theater and thinking “are you crazy…..don’t go outside!!”  Yea, I snapped this fast and hurried inside.  🙂

Someone sent my boss a link to a viagra site! Kinda bad, but a little funny too. So it might have gotten erased. Send it again with a subject line with blog, and Ill bet Ill get it.

I watched this film as a teenager and it terrified and fascinated me at the same time. I have always loved horror films that might just happen. All the Stephen King books about real stories rather than aliens in outer space type ones. We have lots of birds here circling in the evenings. You have stirred up some old memories with this post. I shall blame you if I get shivers down my back as I walk my daughter to her friends house today!

‘The Bird’s’ was a terrifying movie that left such a lasting impression. We live near agricultural land and often see ‘ a murder’ of crows – and always think of Hitchcock into the bargain. 🙂
