    Recycling Day

Twice a year, in the spring and the fall, the city I live in offers one day for free hazardous material recycling for all their residents.  They set up a drop location and you load up your car with old household chemicals, paint and electronics.  All you need is identification to prove you live in the city and they do the rest.  Years ago my daughters got me involved in recycling….it was something that had been talked about but I just did a bit here and there.   My oldest daughter has always been an environmentalist….even at quite a young age.  She would get upset when she saw construction companies clearing trees or land…

    Happy Earth Day!

On April 22, 1970, approximately 20 million people gathered together to increase public awareness about protecting and preserving the planet.  Forty years ago today, the first Earth Day was officially celebrated.  Since that day, we have made tremendous strides in caring for mother earth and making people aware ~ but there is still plenty of room for improvement.   Several things you could do to help ~ please consider recycling if you don’t already….eliminate the use of pesticides in your lawn or garden…..buy energy saving bulbs and appliances. Earth Hour

We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors… we borrow it from our children. ~ David Brower ~ Don’t forget to turn off your lights for one hour this evening beginning at 8:30 p.m. local time.   Have a late evening candlelight dinner…..sit outside (weather permitting) and gaze at the night sky…..spend the time with family, friends and loved ones.  You will be surprised at how quickly the time will pass and you may even continue into the night without lights.  Alone we are one….together we are many. For Our Children’s Children

On Earth Hour hundreds of millions of people around the world will come together to call for action on climate change by doing something quite simple—turning off their lights for one hour. The movement symbolizes that by working together, each of us can make a positive impact in this fight, protecting our future and that of future generations. Learn more about how Earth Hour began, what we’ve accomplished, and what is in store for 2010. We participated last year and it was actually kind of nice….I lit a hurricane lamp, some candles and we sat around and talked during our hour.  My daughter had a friend stay the night and…
