TWO WEEKS!
Let the fun begin……TWO WEEKS! I’m so ready for this! The image above is from a rare Christmas Day snow, 1966. Don’t you love the Christmas decorations strung across the road in the downtown area. They don’t do that any more…..not in this city anyway. I wonder if they do it in small cities still? We probably won’t have a white Christmas this year. Snow is in the forecast for this evening…we are having yet another coastal storm so there is plenty of rain. I’m not sure if the snow will happen but it is chilly, and wet, so it probably will get a bit slick tonight. There is one thing for…

Oh Christmas Tree……
I’m home today……..my youngest daughter is not feeling well. She was running a fever this morning and said she had awaken earlier in the morning with chills. She is old enough to stay alone if she wants to, but this morning she said she didn’t want to be alone today. It was my first clue that she really doesn’t feel good, so off came my work clothes and made the call to my supervisor. I took the opportunity to get some photos of our Christmas tree. This tree was purchased by my dearest friend David (from California) when he visited one year. It was during the Thanksgiving holidays and I brought my trusty old…

Something Fun
Have you ever imagined how you would look dressed as a Jedi Knight from the Star Wars saga? No….OK, not everyone imagines those types of things….but how about your image on the side of a building or billboard? What about a magazine cover? I ran across this site a few days ago…..all you need is a photo to download and a click of your mouse to see….. Yourself as graffiti art……. Or a work of art……. As you see…..you can also save the images you create. Go. Create. Have Fun. 😉

Give Aways
Not too long ago, I participated in a give away hosted by Mary at The Provident Woman…..and I was one of the winners! I can no longer say “I never win anything”. 🙂 My goodies arrived today…….what a wonderful box it was too. Mary and her husband raise bees, and the winners of their giveaway won products created in their home……..this little one was full of the sweetest and so very tasty honey…… I can’t imagine what it would be like to have fresh honey any time you wanted. This tag was included to explain the contents, and these colorful little jewels are honey sticks…….. Something to keep your lips soft…

Are They Crazy?!?!?
I had mentioned earlier that my oldest daughter was scheduled to work today at 4:45 AM…….or dark 0’clock as I like to call it. She works in retail and this is the largest retail day of the year….. Black Friday. You would think Black Friday gets the name because of the reputation this day has…..people fighting over bargains, people getting hurt in the rush to get in the stores. Actually it comes from the fact that retailers hope sales on this day will push them from red ink to black ink, or profitability, on their ledger sheets. I’m a bean counter, I know these things. 🙂 Alanna did very well with getting up so…

Happy Thanksgiving!
At this time of year, I always remember the words from a song……… “Over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother’s House we go…….” I can’t recall the title…..but the words always run through my head when Thanksgiving rolls around for some reason……… “The horse knows the way, to carry the sleigh………” There is also something else I remember when Thanksgiving rolls around……one of my favorite quotes regarding Thanksgiving……. Buffy to Willow: With mom at Aunt Darlene’s this year, I’m not getting a Thanksgiving. Guess maybe that is just as well. Anya: Well, I think that’s a shame, I love a ritual sacrifice. Buffy: Not really so much one…

Final Update
The nor’Easter that has been named Nor’Ida is slowly moving away from the North Carolina coast. The rain and winds have diminished quite a bit and are still impacting the Northeast but we are calm for the most part. No howling winds, no torrential rains….it is quiet now but we are definitely wetter than we were three days ago. I have discovered the unconfirmed rainfall total I posted yesterday was not the grand total….the final tally for Newport News was 10.01 inches of rain. Only Virginia Beach received more rain at 10.25 inches. Here are a few photos our local paper, The Daily Press, had online…… This photo was taken in Poquoson before the…

Storm Update
We survived a rather wild day and night here in Southeast Virginia on Thursday…..some a little dryer than others. There is massive flooding in my region and it is still raining, though not quite as hard as it was yesterday. I have an unconfirmed total of 5.17 inches thus far in my city. The winds have calmed down to 25mph sustained winds with only 35 to 40mph gusts. I say only because some gusts last night were reaching 75mph. I can’t remember when I have heard my windows rattle like they did yesterday. After the sun went down, I actually got quite worried ~ I think as long as you can see what…

Howling Winds & Pouring Rain
The forecast today is winds 25 to 40 mph…..gusts of over 60 mph. It continues to rain….much harder now than it was yesterday. Our rainfall total as of 7:30 this morning is 4.93 inches since this event started. And the worst of the rain, wind and flooding is yet to come. The forecasters are saying this is a storm of historic proportions for this area and that it is probably going to be worse than the Ash Wednesday storm of 1962 . I’m feeling a bit anxious about the events yet to come. There are a couple of bridges and tunnels closed……if you aren’t familiar with our area, we have several bridge tunnels that…
