    The First One

This is the first time my big girl drove away in her new car this past February….right after we got home and put the plates on, she was off to show her friends…it was not spanking new, but it was new to her.  The car is in excellent shape for its age….no dings, no bumps, no bruises.  So you can imagine how she felt when she received the first one this past Saturday night….nothing catastrophic or life threatening, but it was a very big deal to her.  Her ‘baby’ had been damaged. While driving home from work Saturday evening, a truck carrying construction debris dropped a hunk of something on the road. …

    Please Stand By…..

I was notified of an update on a theme carried by WordPress.  I viewed my page with the new look and I liked the fact that my images were much larger when placed horizontally.  I thought it had a nice look….not so many widgets on the side, but I can deal with that I think.  I told myself it was time for a change…..but then I decided no….then yes…….then no……and well ~ please stand by while I do a little sprucing up around the old place.  There is also the possibility I will go back to the old and comfortable place too.  I’m funny that way sometimes.  🙂

    Outside My Window ~ 7.25.10

Outside My Window…at noon, it is a balmy 95ºF and not a cloud in the sky.  Nothing but sunshine and searing heat.  Factor in the heat index, at this moment it feels like 103ºF.  Our forecast high for today is 105ºF….I believe they said with the heat index, it will feel like 115º.  I do not plan to go anywhere today.  It has been unbelievably hot these past few days….unbelievably hot.  To give you an idea, I looked up some historical data for this day ~ our average temp is 86ºF…our record high was 97ºF set back in 1949.  It appears that record will fall on this day.  We are under dangerous…

    The Bright Side

Instead of strolling the streets of sunny, historic Yorktown with 49 other people during the Scott Kelby 3rd Annual Photo Walk……I’m stuck at home dealing with a plumbing issue of the most inconvenient sort.   I’m currently awaiting the arrival of a plumber I hope will save the day without requiring me to cut off any of my limbs.  I do so enjoy the use of both arms and legs and would hate to part with any of them to pay the bill.  On the bright side of all of this ~ I’m not currently strolling around sunny, historic Yorktown in 99ºF temperatures and a dangerous heat index of 107ºF.  I believe all things happen…

    This Moment #11

A Friday ritual.  A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week.  A simple, special, extraordinary moment.  A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.   If you’re inspired to do the same, leave a link to your ‘moment’ in the comments for all to find and see. (copyright SouleMama 2010) .  Inspired by SouleMama and passed on to me by CoffeeShop Free Actions (Friday Photo Bliss)….why not leave your moment with them as well.

    Credit Due

Earlier last month, the College of William and Mary hosted an employee appreciation luncheon for all the staff at the College.  It is something they do each year….it is something we look forward to each year.  The event is held in the Wren yard so while the temperatures are generally warm for the event, we are usually enjoying a light breeze under a huge canopy of shade trees.  People are recognized for their longevity with the College and the State.  Door Prizes are also given…some quite nice.  But the reason we look forward to this day isn’t the shade trees, the break from work, the catered lunch….not even the door prizes ~ although the…

    Photo Session With “BJ”

I thought I would show you some images from my recent photo session with “BJ”.     🙂  He was quite stoic at first…I was wondering if this was going to work. But then he got quite verbal and had all kinds of ideas for his shoot. “I think a slightly shy look might be good.” “Or maybe this….” “Hey lady…are you listening to me?” “How about I hop down here, by the flowers….” “Yes, yes…I think this works ~ you can see my awesome color down here” “How cool am I?”

    Outside My Window ~ 7.18.10

Outside My Window…is a balmy 80ºF at 9:30 this morning.  Factor in the dew point, it feels like 84ºF.  I went out a little while ago to give some of the more vulnerable plants an early morning drink and it didn’t feel to bad.  It will get hotter with a forecast high of 97º with a slight chance of thunderstorms.  I have given up on the slight chances.  We had a slight chance yesterday…..we had dark storm clouds yesterday….we had thunder yesterday….and we had barely any rainfall yesterday.  Barely enough to disturb the dust on the cars.  This is just sad….there were some dark clouds that looked as if they…
