A Couple More…
Are you tired of the bird shots yet? I have a couple of more practice shots I took Tuesday afternoon…..again with the 55 -250 lens…. Again, through the sliding glass door ~ it is a little too chilly to sit outside quietly and wait for them to come….but I can’t wait for Spring and Summer!! 🙂

Practice
I’m having fun playing with the new camera. I had some visitors after I filled the bird feeders on Sunday. I took these through the sliding glass door so they are not as clear as they could be if I was outside. I was practicing with my 55-250 lens… If you look at the left hand of this next photo, you can see another bird ~ mouth wide open! I didn’t even realize that bird was there until I processed this photo, I was concentrating on the other. I almost cut the second bird off with the edge of the door…… It has been a long time since I used something other than a point and shoot…..a…

Outside My Window ~ 2.14.10
Outside My Window…is 30ºF, sunshine and clear, blue skies at 9:30 this morning. We currently have a wind chill of 21ºF with a mild breeze outside….enough to make my wind chimes sing to me. Our forecast today is sunshine with a high of 41ºF. Can’t complain too much about that. I did wake up to light snow yesterday morning….that was the third Saturday in a row we have had snow. This was not much of a storm though……very light snow flurries, maybe a half inch accumulation with all traces gone by this morning. The one thing that has struck me as I have driven around is the mountains of snow…

How Cool Is That!!
I was contacted Friday by a company that makes plant tags ~ they want to use my Daisy Gardenia photo for their tag!! This is an image I took in May of last year….not too long after I picked my camera up again after many moons of being away. I wouldn’t call this my best shot….but apparently it fits their needs. How cool is that!! 🙂

Snow Melt
We had a beautiful, albeit windy day on Thursday. All of the snow you see in these photos I took on Wednesday melted. You may also notice the water standing with the snow. The melting snow has contributed to those puddles. They are beginning to look like creeks. Believe it or not, there has been standing water here for months (although not quite this bad)….possibly since our monster nor’easter on November 12th of last year. We have had incredible amounts of rain this fall and winter, with a splash of snow here and there. The water levels in the reservoirs and lakes are higher than I have seen in a very long time. These images were taken on my…

Let It Rain?
Our forecast for Wednesday was a rain/mix with a chance of snow showers…on my way to work, it was raining lightly, and then it began to snow…. ….and after I got to work, it began to snow harder……. …..and harder……… ….we began to hear rumors that the College was going to be closing ~ excitement was in the air. You can’t tell from the photo above, but to the right is quite a steep hill which leads down to our parking area and the maintenance shops. Almost right after the rumor began, a semi truck came to make a delivery….he began to go down the hill….slid sideways and got stuck ~ blocking the…

The First
As we sit and wonder what the third storm in two weeks will bring, I thought I would show you some photos I took after the first on January 30th. We haven’t experienced the snow our friends to the north of us have, but this storm brought a substantial amount for us. This is the storm that brought us the most snow we have seen in this area in a few years. I got up bright and early the next morning to blue skies and sunshine. These are my snow shovelers…..my oldest and her boyfriend. They did an excellent job clearing the walk and around the Jeep….and hamming it up for the camera. 🙂 My…

Cheatham Annex
The same day I took this image, while waiting for the moon to rise, I looked to my left and saw this scene at Cheatham Annex. Located on the York River, and part of Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, these piers are visible from the Colonial Parkway. While these ships may not look that huge in the photo, if you look closely you can see what appears to be tiny little trucks parked next to them. As the sun set, it was casting this lovely color across the sky and water. I applied Shadowhouse Creations V25b texture as an overlay to give it a bit of a boost.

Happy Charter Day William & Mary
“On February 8, 1693, King William III and Queen Mary II of England signed the charter for a “perpetual College of Divinity, Philosophy, Languages, and other good Arts and Sciences” to be founded in the Virginia Colony. And William & Mary was born.” ~ College of William and Mary website
