    Outside My Window ~ 4.21.2013

Outside my window…is the end of another weekend.  At around 11:00 this evening we are at 47°F with clear skies.  The weather channel says it feels like 43°F and I’m wondering if I should be worried about the house plants I took outside a couple of weeks ago.  I guess it is too late to worry about that now…I hope they will be alright.  We had an absolutely beautiful, albeit chilly, weekend.  There was a nice overnight soaking rain on Friday and into the early hours Saturday morning that washed the thick layer of pollen away.  A cold front moved in with that rain and left the air feeling brisk and…

    What I See

Yesterday was quite foggy in Hampton Roads….when I left my house it was really dense….almost too dense. The fog lightened up quite a bit the closer I got to Williamsburg and I got an idea.  I travel down the Colonial Parkway during the last leg of my drive to work.  It is always a beautiful drive but one of the things I love about the parkway is the fact there are no traffic lights and I can count on one hand the number of cars I see on my way to work each morning.  I carry my point and shoot camera with me so I decided to take a couple…

    Let It Rain?

Our forecast for Wednesday was a rain/mix with a chance of snow showers…on my way to work, it was raining lightly, and then it began to snow…. ….and after I got to work,  it began to snow harder……. …..and harder……… ….we began to hear rumors that the College was going to be closing ~ excitement was in the air.  You can’t tell from the photo above, but to the right is quite a steep hill which leads down to our parking area and the maintenance shops.  Almost right after the rumor began, a semi truck came to make a delivery….he began to go down the hill….slid sideways and got stuck ~ blocking the…

    Cheatham Annex

The same day I took this image, while waiting for the moon to rise, I looked to my left and saw this scene at Cheatham Annex.  Located on the York River, and part of Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, these piers are visible from the Colonial Parkway.   While these ships may not look that huge in the photo, if you look closely you can see what appears to be tiny little trucks parked next to them.   As the sun set, it was casting this lovely color across the sky and water.  I applied Shadowhouse Creations V25b texture as an overlay to give it a bit of a boost.

    Outside My Window ~ 1.24.10

Outside My Window…is a cloudy afternoon around 2:15 pm,  and about 65ºF.  I believe we have a forecast for rain this evening, rain and wind tomorrow.  The temperature is wonderful out, first time in a long time I have been able to go outside without a jacket….comfortably anyway.  🙂  There was sun shine when I woke up, but the clouds quickly took over around noon.  I am thinking…about the drive earlier today.  I took Cailin out again and happy to report there is good progress.  Today we drove for about an hour and a half and approximately 50 miles.  We began at Newport News Park  and headed north to Williamsburg, drove the Parkway…

    She Did Great!

Not one of my best shots but it was taken in a hurry.  If you recall, I mentioned yesterday that I would be taking my youngest out on actual roads to practice driving today.  Fourteen miles down the Colonial Parkway…she did great….I’m very proud of her.  🙂

    Snow & The Parkway

I posted this image earlier today when I wrote about snow on the parkway.  After I got home this evening, I reprocessed it using a “recipe” and a texture from Shadowhouse Creations.  I applied “Frost” from his Heavenly Vintage Texture Set at 100% linear burn…..I like this result better than the first.  I also used the same for the following photos….   This gives you an idea of what the Colonial Parkway is like.  It is a three lane, unmarked road with the center lane used for passing in allowed areas ~ which there are not too many.  It is a really beautiful drive….a nice way to begin and end your day.  🙂

    Snow

Skippity Doo Dah…..we got snow last night as we slept!   They said it would, but I didn’t believe it.  Sure, it has been cold enough….but the air has also been very dry.  Apparently not dry enough because the stars aligned, the conditions worked and we awoke to snow.  🙂   Not much mind you…..maybe an inch to an inch and a half.  But enough to warrant a two hour delay at my daughter’s school today.  By the time we got out on the streets, they were clear for the most part.  After I dropped my daughter, I was off to work.  I took a moment to stop on the Colonial Parkway this morning…

    Summer in Southeast Virginia

Typical summer afternoon in Southeast Virginia…….I’m leaving work to beautiful blue skies and cotton candy clouds.  Here is a glimpse of my drive down the Colonial Parkway after work.  I was on my way to Gloucester to pick up Alanna from a friends house.    I noticed the clouds getting larger…….   When I arrived in Gloucester, the sun was shining bright through the pine tree…..    By the time we arrived home, the clouds were building and the skies were darkening even more, but amidst the dark sky, a rainbow.  Actually, it was a double rainbow, but the second one had faded so that it didn’t photograph.    …

    Skippity Doo Dah

It’s finally Friday…….Skippity Doo Dah!!  🙂 I don’t know about anyone else, but for me one of the hardest weeks at work are the ones that immediately follow time off.  The clock couldn’t have moved any slower today ~ by 11 it felt like it should have been time to go!  Needless to say, the plans to prep the kitchen for painting never happened this week.  I did get some things accomplished, but not that.  This weekend will be too nice to stay indoors anyhow so it is probably a good thing I didn’t.  I plan to finish the outside flower bed by making it much smaller.  Right now it…
