Removing Color Cast From Photos
Yesterday I showed you a photo with a color cast and another of the same photo after I fixed it….. Today I promised to show you how to do it. I use Photoshop Elements 7. You will probably be able do the same thing in earlier versions. Let’s begin…….open you image and duplicate the background (control J). While working in your layer copy, select filter->blur->average….. This will reveal your color cast…… Now select Layer->New Adjustment Layer->Levels The opportunity to name this layer will appear, you may leave it as is or name it “gray adjustment”. Click OK…..once it opens, select your gray dropper…….. ….and click on your image. It should turn gray…

Eureka!
I have posted a few scanned photos taken years ago when I lived in Denver. These photos have been a challenge because of a color cast that has developed over the years. There are quite a few photos that have this cast over them. But look what I learned to do….. 🙂 I will share the secret to my success with you tomorrow!

A Day To Rest
I stayed home today….I awoke with a thundering migraine this morning. Thankfully, I rarely get headaches….but when I get one ~ it generally knocks me out for a few hours until it goes away. After I woke up and was feeling better, I played around on the computer a little bit ~ working again on the tutorial I discovered. Oh, and the name of the individual the effect is named after came to me last night. Hmmmm, maybe that is why I got the headache ~ straining my brains too much to think of the name. The tutorial is called the “Dave Hill Effect”…….and if you want to check out…

Experimenting
I have been playing with another photo tutorial this evening…….my oldest daughter and her boyfriend……..before ~ ….and after I applied a few layers and filters…… Can you see the difference? There is a name for this type of look but for the life of me, I can’t remember what it is called. 😕

Slipping Away
I was playing around with a couple of post processing tutorials I found this evening when I realized the evening was slipping away. This is one of the images I was playing with…..a garden decoration in my backyard I photographed this past weekend. I was relaxing in a lawn chair and noticed the colors as the sun was setting. The tutorial I was playing around with is one that adds a dramatic and gritty effect to images. I had a few others I was working on ~ but the hour is getting late.

Levitation
Practicing my levitation with this pretty little flower arrangement. I thought the lighting was lovely…. …..too bad I didn’t have a human subject to float. 😉

Way Behind
It was my intent to catch up on uploading photos to my Flickr account while I was on vacation….that didn’t happen. I decided I didn’t want to spend my vacation doing that….I liked visiting with my parents much better. 🙂 So I’m thinking tonight, why not work on catching things up. It sounded like a plan so I sat down and began to go back in time to see where I left off. I have uploaded some random things here and there ~ but I soon discovered I am way, way behind! I uploaded some October photos in December….and that was it. I’m all the way back in November….the images in this post are a sampling…..yes…

Scenes From Our Hike
Today we went shopping and out to eat in Charlotte, North Carolina. It has been a long day so I’m going to feature a couple of photos from our hike yesterday……. We had just been talking about the lack of any bird or squirrel’s nests in the area and decided it was because the eagles nest was in these woods. Not too long after that, we noticed a rather ragged looking squirrels nest….which turned out to be not so far from the eagles nest. Once we saw the proximity of the squirrels nest to the eagles….we figured out why it was so ragged looking….possibly ravaged by the eagle searching for…

Green Eyes
My neighbors cat doesn’t like cameras. The cat will come up to you, rub on your legs and even let you pet it. Pull out a camera ~ she is gone. I snuck around the corner one day and got this image with my zoom lens through the fence……she never knew. 🙂

Scenes From My Backyard
I sat in my little backyard yesterday for a bit. I had lots to do….but it was a nice morning, and I decided to sit for a little while and take some practice shots. I had filled the bird feeders and sat quietly in a corner of the yard….if you feed them, they will come. 🙂 This little guy was quite curious….almost to ask why I wasn’t leaving….you filled the bird feeders, time to leave human…. I don’t know the name of the tree this Blue Jay is sitting in, but I loved how the the little seed pods added a little decoration to the background. Those seed…
