    Steeples

I am not a religious person ~ but I am a spiritual person.  Even though I walk a different path and I don’t attend church, I have always been fascinated by church steeples….especially when viewed against a dramatic sky.  This image was taken as a storm was building up.  There was a combination of storm clouds, blue sky and sunshine.  I know I applied two Shadowhouse Creations textures to this image ~ but sadly I didn’t take notes when I was processing it.  I often do that….process an image, really like the look and then realize I can’t remember how I got there.  I recently found an old notebook and began to take notes on the steps I followed ~ just…

    Low Tide

I processed this image with two Shadowhouse Creations textures in PSE7.  First I used Ghostly multiplied at 85% and Arctic Chill as an overlay at 100%.   I like to take a lot of photos in an area I call the “boat docks” near my mother’s house.  Truth be known, it is actually comprised of several small fishing and walking piers and a place to launch your boat into the river.  It isn’t anything extravagant ~ and if you didn’t know the area, you wouldn’t even realize there was a dock at the end of the road.  One of the main roads to my mother’s house  dead ends at this place on the Warwick River.  The reason I love to come here is the…

    The Coleman Bridge

On the eastern coast of Virginia, in the area that is considered the Coastal Plain, there are four peninsulas.  The first is called the Eastern Shore of Virginia.  It is separated from the mainland by the Chesapeake Bay.  Bordered by the bay on the west, the Atlantic on the east and the Maryland Eastern Shore on the north, this peninsula is generally visited by traveling via the 17 mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.  The other three peninsula’s are the Northern Neck, the Middle Peninsula and one known simply as the Peninsula.  The Northern Neck is located between the Potomac and the Rappahannock Rivers; the Middle Peninsula is located between the Rappahannock and the York Rivers; and the Peninsula is…

    Snow & The Parkway

I posted this image earlier today when I wrote about snow on the parkway.  After I got home this evening, I reprocessed it using a “recipe” and a texture from Shadowhouse Creations.  I applied “Frost” from his Heavenly Vintage Texture Set at 100% linear burn…..I like this result better than the first.  I also used the same for the following photos….   This gives you an idea of what the Colonial Parkway is like.  It is a three lane, unmarked road with the center lane used for passing in allowed areas ~ which there are not too many.  It is a really beautiful drive….a nice way to begin and end your day.  🙂

    Working With Textures

I have been playing around with textures more when I process my photos.  I’m still quite new at it, but I’m having a good time learning.  The above texture on the Buckroe Lighthouse was compliments of Shadowhouse Creations.  Jerry, aka SkeletalMess, is so very talented and creates some amazing textures.  Bonus ~ they are all free!  Stop by and visit his site…..and while you are there, be sure to check out some of his art work….fabulous!!  🙂

    Run Run Running

Some of you may or may not know this, but I’m a runner.  I’m a morning runner…….I get up bright and early, especially on the days I work, and run.  Rain or shine, cold or hot, I run….and I love it.  I didn’t start until I was 43, but I was immediately hooked.  There is nothing like it.  Sadly, I haven’t been able to run lately.  My foot is giving me problems again.  Weird thing is, it doesn’t bother me when I run ~ it is walking on it afterwards I have to worry about.  So I have been giving it a break lately…..let it rest and heal.  I suffer from Plantar Fasciitis.  Here…

    Something wicked….

On this particular evening, as the sun was setting behind the clouds, the sky had an eerie kind of glow to it.  I was at my mother’s house and snapping a few photos here and there when I walked by her now bare walnut tree and noticed this shot.   What I didn’t notice until afterwards was the group of birds flying towards me.  I noticed them when I lowered the camera….I don’t remember seeing them prior to taking the photo, but there they were.  Large birds, normally gulls, are not unusual around my mother’s house.  She lives near a large river, which feeds into the Chesapeake Bay.  There are vultures that hang around that…

    Outside My Window ~ 1.3.10

Outside My Window…is a beautiful morning.  There are blue skies, sun shine and oh yea, it’s freezing cold!!  The temperature at 8:00 this morning is 24F, the wind is blowing at 21 mph with gusts up to 30 mph which is creating a wind chill of about 10F.  Our high today is suppose to be around 34F.  Fortunately the sun is out so it may not seem that cold when you walk outside……who am I kidding, it is going to be freezing cold no matter what!!  🙂 I am thinking…the fresh water I put in the bird bath yesterday is now a solid block of ice.  It was a block of…

    Outside My Window ~ 12.27.09

Outside My Window…is a beautiful morning.  Blue skies, sunshine a bit chilly at 42F with a 38F wind chill.  The forecast for today doesn’t change much….a high of 56 with some clouds coming in this afternoon.  We had a lot of rain with a high of 56 on Christmas Day.  It didn’t begin to rain until around 2:00, but it continued throughout the night.  Yesterday we woke up to cloudy skies and fog, but still relatively mild temps.  For the coming week the temps will hover in the low to mid 40’s.   I am thinking…about what I want to do today.  Now is the time to get rolling on my list of things…
