    Outside My Window ~ 6.9.2013

Outside my window…is a typical summer morning in Southeast Virginia.  I know it isn’t officially summer yet ~ but it certainly feels like it outside this past weekend.  Right now, at around 10:00 this morning, we are at 79°F with a 71% humidity so it feels like 81°F.  Skies are partly cloudy but I like to think of it as more like filtered sun.  There is plenty of sunshine out however there is a definite haze in the air which gives it that filtered look.  Our forecast high for the day is 84°F….but will probably feel closer to 90° when you factor in the humidity.  There has been plenty of…

    Outside My Window ~ 02.03.2013

Outside my window…is the closing hours of another weekend.  We have had a chilly weekend…the high yesterday was 40°F, today our high was 44°F.  It didn’t much feel like that when I went outside with the dog.  There was a decent breeze all day…not enough to ring the wind chimes but enough to put a nice chill in the air.  Our forecast low for this evening is 27°F.  We will gradually warm up into the mid 50’s by the middle of the week and then hit 60°F this coming Friday along with a chance of rain.  I’m not counting winter totally out for the rest of the season, but I…

    Being Still

I sent out an email to family and friends recently and told them I was “amazed that it is already August…this year has just flown by as far as I’m concerned. It makes me almost dizzy when I look back at the year and remember certain events and highlights…and the summer, almost a blur! I have come to the conclusion that I don’t always have to be doing something….it is ok to be still. Sometimes it is nice to just sit…to look around and really see…to take a moment to listen to the sounds of life.  I’m practicing enjoying silence….enjoying just being still.” I was recalling a night recently when thoughts were…

    New Years Day

I was beginning to work on Outside My Window but wasn’t feeling it today at all.   I decided to post some shots of the first sunset of the new year instead.  Outside My Window will be here tomorrow.

    Outside My Window ~ 11.6.2011

Outside my window…is the first evening after daylight savings time ended.  It is about ten minutes until eight but it feels much later than that.  It has been dark forever….how can it not even be 8:00 yet?!?!  It is currently 48°F with calm winds.  Calm winds were not the norm around here this past weekend.  The last nor’easter that visited and quickly pulled away on Friday left a path of heavy winds all day Saturday.  Today wasn’t as bad but still breezy….especially near the James River late this afternoon.  We warmed up to about 60°F today which is close to average for the area.  Looks like we will stay in…

    High Water and Birds

I stopped by the boat dock on my way home Thursday evening.  This is one of my favorite locations for shooting sunsets.  As I drove towards the river, I was surprised at how much standing water there was on the sides of the road.  I was even more surprised when I got to the river and saw how high the water was.  The dock I usually walk out on is totally under water.  I’m still not sure why the water level was so high…no storms or any reason that I have heard.  I mean, the Mississippi is flooding but this river is a long way from there.  I do know…
