This photograph was taken during construction of the Twin Towers, circa 1972. If you are interested you can read a short story about the photograph…….click here. The photographer posted it on Flickr yesterday. Some days stay with you forever….birthdays, anniversaries of many kinds and historical events. You have specific memories that come to surface each time that anniversary comes around. What you were doing….where you were….. This poem always come to my mind on this anniversary……. That beautiful Tuesday morning….
There are some things you never forget….memorable events in your life….the birth of a child….the passing of loved ones….and what you were doing on the day historic events happened. September 11, 2001. It was a beautiful morning…sunshine, blue skies. I will never forget how blue the sky was that morning…..here at home and in New York. I was driving to work when the radio DJ told everyone about a horrible accident that had just occurred in New York City….”turn on your televisions” he said…he has never told the radio audience to walk away from the radio and go to the television. I was minutes away from work so when I arrived the first thing I did was…

One Sunny Morning
“I am prepared to die, but there is no cause for which I am prepared to kill.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi From the 104th Floor A Poem by Leda Rodis When the plane hit the building rocked first to the right then to the left, and outside all the skyscrapers of New York seemed to tremble. The alarms screamed louder than we did, and I knew it was time to get away. It’s funny what you notice: a pen rolling across the floor my screen saver flicker and go off a picture of you and me at Coney Island. So much to leave behind. And yet so little. Running down the hall I remembered my mother taking me to…

Outside My Window ~ 9.11.2011
Outside my window…is the closing hours on a beautiful Sunday. It was indeed beautiful. Blue skies….sunshine…and a high of 86°F….not so different from that Tuesday ten years ago. The rest of the week will be much of the same, no rain in the forecast. I would actually prefer some cooler temperatures rather than the mid 80’s and it appears as if “wish granted” by the end of the week when temperatures will fall to the mid to low 70’s for a time. I really enjoy this time of year ~ everything is still green and the temperatures are beginning to feel more like fall. This is also my favorite time of year for sunsets as well. The cooler days produce less haze and the light…

In Memory…..

I remember…..
I remember……..driving to work that bright, sunny day. I remember……..listening to the radio as they talked about a horrible accident ~ a plane had hit the World Trade Center, North Tower. I remember…..arriving at the office and telling everyone to turn on the television in the conference room, there had been an accident. I remember…..watching in horror as the second plane deliberately flew into the South Tower and it exploded into flames. I remember…..being afraid by all the events of the day. I remember…..wondering how in the world they would ever put those fires out….only to witness immediately after my thought the South Tower collasping and then the North Tower a short time…
