Happy Thanksgiving!

Road To Grandmas

At this time of year, I always remember the words from a song………

“Over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother’s House we go…….”

I can’t recall the title…..but the words always run through my head when Thanksgiving rolls around for some reason………

“The horse knows the way, to carry the sleigh………”

There is also something else I remember when Thanksgiving rolls around……one of my favorite quotes regarding Thanksgiving…….

Buffy to Willow:  With mom at Aunt Darlene’s this year, I’m not getting a Thanksgiving.  Guess maybe that is just as well.

Anya:  Well, I think that’s a shame, I love a ritual sacrifice.

Buffy:  Not really so much one of those.

Anya:  To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It’s a ritual sacrifice………with pie.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer is no longer televised…….but the memories live on.   However you choose to look at it…..have a great Thanksgiving!  🙂

    Happy Thanksgiving day!
I’ve never heard your song but I googled the lyrics and I found lots of variations using Thankgiving day/Christmas day:

The song, written by Lydia Maria Child in 1844, celebrates her childhood memories of visiting her Grandfather’s House at the Christmas holiday. The lyrics are as follows:

Over the River and Through the Woods, To Grandmother’s house we go. The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh Through white and drifted snow.

Over the River and Through the Woods, Oh, how the wind does blow. It stings the toes and bites the nose As over the ground we go.

Over the River and Through the Woods, To have a full day of play. Oh, hear the bells ringing ting-a-ling-ling, For it is Christmas Day.

Over the River and Through the Woods, Trot fast my dapple gray; Spring o’er the ground just like a hound, For this is Christmas Day.

Over the River and Through the Woods, And straight through the barnyard gate. It seems that we go so dreadfully slow; It is so hard to wait.

Over the River and Through the Woods, Now Grandma’s cap I spy. Hurrah for fun, the pudding’s done; Hurrah for the pumpkin pie.

The song is one I can remember singing back in elementary school many years ago. I have a memory of being very young and skipping through my house during the holidays singing the song….but all I could ever remember were the first couple of lines. I never thought of googling it to get the complete thing…..thanks so much! 🙂

A belated Happy Thanksgiving Debbie. I wish we had something similar in the UK, our next celebration is St Andrew’s night tomorrow. He’s our patron saint but it’s only a bank holiday and no food fest apart from big organisations who use any excuse to claim expenses!

That Gina is such a clever clogs! :p 🙂
