The First One

This is the first time my big girl drove away in her new car this past February….right after we got home and put the plates on, she was off to show her friends…it was not spanking new, but it was new to her.  The car is in excellent shape for its age….no dings, no bumps, no bruises.  So you can imagine how she felt when she received the first one this past Saturday night….nothing catastrophic or life threatening, but it was a very big deal to her.  Her ‘baby’ had been damaged.

While driving home from work Saturday evening, a truck carrying construction debris dropped a hunk of something on the road.  The car in front of her was able to swerve and miss it….she didn’t have that option without hitting another vehicle.  She moved out of the way as best she could and fortunately missed the debris with her front wheel…..the back wheel didn’t fare so well.  Fortunately she was able to keep control of the car after hitting  the debris and the damage was fairly minor.  The hub cap was badly scrapped and the wheel was bent…but she was safe which was my main concern.   Her lesson learned was that while owning your own car can be fun, it can also be expensive ~ and it can be aggravating to pay for repairs that aren’t necessarily your fault.

I remember “the first one” with several of my own cars….some more devastating than others.  It seems after you experience the first bump, ding or bruise all those that may follow are less traumatic.   Do you remember the first time something happened to your new car?

    Glad she was safe!

My first car. My cherry red Mercury Tracer. Loved that car. Named it “Bart”. Had take it into the shop for some routine top-offs and such. While on the way to my then boyfriends’ (now husbands) apartment on base, we were stopped at a light under the overpass. I noticed a lot of smoke but assumed it was from the semi that had just passed us. Suddenly, a man, on the other side of the road, during rush hour, ran out and yelled at us, “Your car is on fire!!!” The idiots at the shop topped off my antifreeze but failed to tighten down the cap. The antifreeze sprayed out and hit the engine, causing it to catch fire. I loved that car. It ended up baked :(.

How horrible! I bet you were heartbroken as you stood by and watched your car bake. 🙁 It is for that reason I’m always leery when I have to take my Jeep in to have it serviced.

Hi Debbie, I didn’t think it was that long since I was here, but evidently it has been. I went as far back as the sweet little baby photo of you, don’t you just love these? I love the dresses they put us in back then.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your sweet little birdie BJ. He’s a titmouse, isn’t he? what a weird name for such a cute lil birdie, why in the world would they name them something like that? hahah We have quite a few down here too. He’s so cute he makes me laugh. He would make a really cute header. I love his soft looking feathers and they look all crumpled up so he must be a youngun’. He seems to like you a lot. He sure is a little ham for the camera lol speaking of which I liked your post on the picture taking, so do you mind if I ask you which camera do you use? And your pictures are breathtaking ! They look so professional as if I’m viewing them from a magazine. I’m sure you use photoshop, and any other tips you can give us? I don’t have photoshop, well I have an old version I haven’t loaded onto this computer yet.

So glad you finally got some good rain ! I know how badly you needed it.
That was nice of William and Mary to give you the afternoon off ! and the ice cold beer looks so refreshing. gosh it’s probably not beer, but iced tea LOL.

I love the new look in here, it’s really pretty. It makes me want to move back to wordpress. I used wordpress for years.

Oh, and so sorry your baby hurt her new car. It’s a beauty. And yes the main thing is she’s alright. She was very lucky it wasn’t worse. She’s so pretty.

I will talk to you soon! Try to stay cool. I wish for a cool breeze for both of us.

oh and glad you got your plumbing fixed! sorry it cost so much

Thanks for the link to the Earth Clinic site ~ very informative…can’t wait to explore it further.

The bird I featured is an immature BlueJay….he doesn’t have his little pointy crown yet. 🙂 But we do have some titmouse (titmice?) around here.

My camera is a Canon Rebel Xsi EOS 450D. I don’t use Photoshop but I do use Lightroom 3 and Photoshop Elements 7. I don’t profess to be all knowing but one tip I can offer is practice….shoot every day. Some days I don’t keep anything I shoot, but I believe the practice helps.

Oh, I meant to tell you to go to http://earthclinic.com to find some natural cures for eczema. I had that years ago and it would flare up if I used that NCR (carbon) paper at work and also something else I can’t remember right now :O)
I remember going to the Dermatologist and they put some milky white lotion on it (that smelled like fish) and had me sit with my hands under a heat lamp. It did the trick though. You might love that sight 🙂 I better get myself to bed !

Wow! Im glad that was the only thing that happened. Minor bumps and dents are okay. I remember each time getting a car and having it dented from randomness over time, each time minding a little bit less. I guess thats what they call getting “broken in”.
