Outside My Window

Outside My Window ~ 6.26.11

Outside my window…is our first full weekend of summer.  It is about 12:45 and we are currently at 82°F with partly cloudy skies.  Humidity is relatively low for this area, only 53% right now.  The chance for rain is also low at 20%, however there are quite a few clouds that have built up since I woke up this morning and I have seen some of the strongest storms occur when the percentage has been that low before.  Sometimes I think the weather forecast is just a crap shoot and/or luck.  The rest of the week looks like a clone of today, low 80’s with our greatest chances for rain on Monday and Tuesday.

I am glad…that my mom was able to get away for a few days with all of her bowling friends.  She works hard taking care of her home and my step-father each day so I’m glad when she has the opportunity to take a break and get away for a bit.  She has attended the National Bowling Tournament for the past 29 years with many of the same women she is with now.  It has allowed her to travel to quite a few different cities in the states during that time…places she probably wouldn’t have gone on her own.  This year they are in Syracuse, New York and will be traveling to see Niagara Falls on the Canadian side.  I hope she is having a blast and enjoying the time to herself.  And if she is reading this…we are doing fine…no worries, enjoy yourself!  🙂

I am thinking…about making my own granola today.  I love eating granola in plain yogurt with some fruit added….but the good stuff is fairly expensive so I don’t get to eat it as much as I would like.  If it comes out like I hope, I will share the recipe with you.  I can definitely see a trend growing where I would like to make more of my own things.  Of course, there will be some things I will have to continue to purchase, but what I can make…I want to at least try.

I am working on…scanning and organizing my old photographs.  I had started this project a while back and for one reason or another, it was sidelined.  I began a new weekly series (Friday Flashback ~ see the new link under the header photo) a couple of weeks ago and discovered that the photographs were something I needed to get a handle on if I was to continue this.  I was spending far too much time digging through piles and piles of photographs to find what I wanted.   I also noticed some of my old images have faded ~ poor quality chemicals used when originally developed or due to age, not sure why but I want to preserve what I have.  I discovered I had not gotten near as many scanned as I thought…so it is back to the drawing board.  First I will organize, then I will scan.

I am going to…be doing some work from home today.  A last minute error was discovered in the higher echelon of budget/finance at work and now I’m doing some very last minute work that wasn’t originally planned for.  Not a mistake on my part but let’s just say someone at a much higher pay grade than me wasn’t paying close attention to details.  It works for me though…it is extremely rare that I get an opportunity for overtime, much less everyone crossing their fingers that I would do it.  🙂

I am hoping…that all the tomatoes coming off of my plants are as delicious as the first.  I finally ate the first one and it was wonderful…so very tasty!!  I was also able to harvest some basil and lemon balm which was equally delicious.  I guess I’m hoping that everything keeps going like it is so I can continue to enjoy my own freshly grown goodness.

I am hearing…the ticking of my many clocks….an airplane overhead…the hum of the refrigerator…an otherwise quiet house…which was just shattered when my youngest turned on the dryer.  I know it is because the house was just so quiet, but now it sounds like a jet engine is running in here.  🙂

Plans for the week include…not so much this week….I will be enjoying a three day weekend coming up….unfortunately no working at home since my supervisor is out and I will be filling him for him as needed….organizing photographs.

One of life’s little pleasures…enjoying the fruits of your labor.  Whether it is something you grew to eat, or flowers to make you smile….or a photograph or other creation of some sort….there is almost nothing more satisfying than the moment when you sit back and enjoy it.

From my camera…dainty rain drops in a red leaf maple tree…

Ummm, yes. The weather forecast is a crap shoot. Doug says they are “weather guessers’. It is the only job one can have and be wrong all the time and not get fired!

Oh, and if you are interested, I have a great recipe for granola that I got from a really neat lodge near Monument, CO. I can email it to you.

Good luck with the Granola. We have made some great batches over the last few months that have been gone in days. The last batch ended up just a bit burnt and bitter but not bad enough to throw away. Surprisingly it is still lingering on in the kitchen and is not being eaten with the same enthusiasm as previous batches!!!

I’m thinking the crowd doesn’t enjoy the “well done” version of granola. But not you have given me something to think about…it didn’t even cross my mind that I could burn it! I was just envisioning granola goodness! 🙂
