Outside My Window

Outside My Window ~ 10.2.2011

Outside my window…is a dark and cloudy night {I love it when I can write that 🙂 } …and it is cold.  Well, not freezing cold, but compared to what we have been experiencing lately…it is cold.  And it feels good too. Currently at 8:45 p.m. we are at 54°F and a forecast low of 46°F is expected for the evening.  Our high tomorrow is set for 61°F with a few showers and another chilly evening with a low of 47°F.  The rest of this week will be pretty much the same until it finally warms up to 76°F on Saturday.  My youngest told me yesterday she is not ready for summer to leave ~ I’m over the heat and ready for cooler temps personally.  I’m ready for the cooler temps however I’m not ready for the barren trees and lack of green that comes with colder weather.

I am thinking…about the 4th annual Scott Kelby photo walk yesterday.  It was nice…cool temperatures…a little more rain than was predicted ~ especially since they predicted none and the little weather map didn’t show any activity over us while we were standing under a shelter waiting for the downpour to end….but it was all good…we got some awesome rainbow shots when it finally stopped.  We were at Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia.  We had crossed under the moat through a tunnel and were walking on the other side ~ I know, an honest to goodness moat folks! The rain had finally stopped for the most part when some people walking with us heard from some other walkers on their cell phone that there was a huge rainbow on the other side over the Chesapeake Bay.  They headed back the way we had come, to the first tunnel under the moat….my sister and I decided we were 10 years old again and ran up a rather large hill to the top of the moat.  I don’t know where the energy came from, but we were moving.  And that wasn’t all….when we got to the top, we decided to run some more….across the top to get in better position for photographs.  It was well worth it…while it wasn’t a complete rainbow, it was a double rainbow even though the second one wasn’t as brilliant as the first….as you will see.  We walked for 2 hours 15 minutes, my feet were screaming at me by the end  of the evening (I’m sure all the running didn’t help) but we got some nice photographs as well as some great time together doing what we love.  We have determined if we are able to get back in the area we will be making another trip for more photographs.

I am glad…we didn’t give up the photo walk when it first started raining.  Several people did, but we hung in there.  We got a little wet…and we determined an old cedar tree makes an excellent umbrella (no lightening so we were good).  It rained heavily but not for an extended period…it would come and go with some sprinkles in between.  I was able to get a lot of texture shots while we were waiting under cover.

I am going…to give the wedding photos a once over before uploading them to the website.  They are all ready for the most part…but the perfectionist in me is telling me I need to give them another look just in case.   🙂

I am hearing…the dryer tumbling clothes….”Supernatural” on television….the ticking of my many clocks…

Plans for the week include…a full week at work since my supervisor is on vacation 😐 ….publishing the wedding photographs online….and a trip to Florida this Saturday for a couple of days.

One of life’s little pleasures…snuggling in bed under the blankets on a cool fall night.  I don’t know about anyone else, but I sleep better when it is cool.

From my camera…from the top of the moat at Fort Monroe….those aren’t bushes ~ they are tree tops.  The colors were amazingly brilliant ~ I haven’t added any extra color and pop to this image…notice the second albeit fainter rainbow to the right.
