Outside My Window ~ 12.23.2012
Outside my window…is the closing hours of the last weekend before Christmas ~ and a rather chilly one at that. There were cooler temperatures and wind which made it seem all the more colder. When I went out to walk the dog this morning it was 27°F with wind. There was frost everywhere…as close to snow as we will probably get this year for the holidays. Currently at 10:00 in the evening we are at 47°F. The forecast low this evening is 41°F with temperatures dropping into the mid 30’s with mostly cloudy skies by early morning. Our high for Christmas Eve will just hit 50°F with rain beginning around noon. Showers will continue up until around 8:00 or 9:00 tomorrow evening. Christmas morning will find us in the mid 40’s with partly sunny skies. The temperatures are not expected to rise much higher than 50°F. There is a chance for severe thunderstorms the day after Christmas but no snow in the forecast…we are too warm.
I am thinking…about the things I need to get done tomorrow. It will be a busy day from beginning to end I believe.
I am glad…that I will not have to venture out to the mall or stores tomorrow. I went to the grocery store on Saturday and traffic was nuts, parking lots were jammed….can’t imagine what the day before Christmas will be like. I have done all I’m going to do.
I am hoping…my oldest daughter is just experiencing a 24 hour bug. She hasn’t been feeling well all day but managed to hang in there to finish her shift at work. She feels like she has a fever and she moans every once in awhile from the couch….I hope it isn’t the flu. I haven’t taken her temperature but she is quite warm to the touch so I’m keeping my distance. I hope she is feeling better by Christmas morning but more importantly, I hope I don’t get whatever she has!
I am hearing…the ticking of my many clocks….the dog snoring on the couch….a moan from my daughter….the Lord of the Rings on television ~ they have shown all three movies today, and yes, I have had them on….the geek in me has been in heaven. 🙂
Plans for the week include…celebrating Christmas with my family on Tuesday….the rest of the week, wide open. I do have plans to get out in the backyard, pile all the leaves up and get it cleaned up. I want to do something different back there but I can’t decide exactly what right now, maybe it will come to me before I get out there. I’m going to start a compost pile with all the leaves for the flower beds. I also plan on getting the flower bed in better condition for the spring this year….something I usually wait until the spring to do. I’m going to mix some compost from last year into the soil and then top it with some pine needles from the trees around the neighborhood. If I get it ready now I should just have to plant my seeds when it gets warm enough. One of my goals for the coming year is to a little more pro-active instead of waiting until it needs to be done….and not just for gardening. That’s the plan anyway. 🙂
One of life’s little pleasure…Christmas morning with my daughters. Even though they are older, I still enjoy watching them open the gifts just like I did when they were little.
