So it begins again….
Yet another coastal storm is making its way up the mid-Atlantic coast. I knew when summer ended, our fall and winter season was going to be an active one. I don’t know how or what made me feel that…maybe the way summer ended, or the way fall began…but I just knew. I didn’t however realize just how active it would be. It seems the coastal storms, or nor ‘easters as they are called, have been coming one right after another. There is still plenty of snow from the last storm, which is melting quickly in the rain tonight. The ground is thoroughly saturated….I don’t see how it can hold another drop…

Dead On
The weather forecast was dead on today. It began snowing early this morning, around 2 or 3 a.m., and has been going strong ever since. We are at 26ºF at 9:30 this morning with a wind chill of 13ºF. The snow is supposedly falling at about one to two inches per hour…….I don’t know how much we have thus far, but they are predicting heavy snow all day and into the night with a final tally of about 10 to 12 inches for our region. It is fairly windy outside right now and the snow is very fine and powdery. It is snowing pretty heavily as I take these, but you wouldn’t know…

Little Creek In The Forest
This little creek winds through the forest and is usually not much…..but due to the mass quantities of rain this winter, it is deeper and flowing quite nicely now. My plan was to get a few more photos, but the floor of the forest is like a huge sponge….far too soggy to go exploring on.

Thanks Reba and Lacey!
Wouldn’t you love to have farm fresh eggs available to you? A couple of months ago a friend at work offered me just that. He and his wife had purchased some land and built a house a couple of years ago. In the fall of last year, they decided to add chickens to the mix. And with chickens, you hope to get eggs…..they were not disappointed. But the eggs kept coming….quicker than he or his wife could eat them. So they each went in to work one day and asked their friends if anyone would be interested in free eggs from free roaming, organically fed chickens. The only stipulation, you had to bring your own…

Lake Maury and The Lion’s Bridge
Last night, I was organizing some files on my computer when I ran across the folder of photos I had taken one afternoon at Lion’s Bridge. I had posted the above image and mentioned that I would write more about him ~ and then I promptly forgot. I need to work on that! 🙂 Lion’s Bridge is actually a dam. Information regarding Lion’s Bridge as taken from the Mariner Museum web site: Known as the Lion’s Bridge, the dam forming the lake provides a breathtaking view of the James River, as well as a family gathering place to enjoy the Museum Park. The beauty of the dam is enhanced by…

She Did Great!
Not one of my best shots but it was taken in a hurry. If you recall, I mentioned yesterday that I would be taking my youngest out on actual roads to practice driving today. Fourteen miles down the Colonial Parkway…she did great….I’m very proud of her. 🙂

The Birds
Does anyone remember the Alfred Hitchcock movie “The Birds”? I can’t remember exactly when I first saw the movie….but let’s just say it has been a few years ago. 😉 It was more than likely at a weekend matinee where you could get in for free if you saved R C Cola bottle caps. The theater was always full of kids waiting with bated breath to see the newest releases. There was a cartoon before the movie and they almost always had a double-feature (two movies ~ with an intermission in between). I can’t tell you much about the day I saw the movie, but I can tell you it is one movie that has stayed with me forever. As…

Steeples
I am not a religious person ~ but I am a spiritual person. Even though I walk a different path and I don’t attend church, I have always been fascinated by church steeples….especially when viewed against a dramatic sky. This image was taken as a storm was building up. There was a combination of storm clouds, blue sky and sunshine. I know I applied two Shadowhouse Creations textures to this image ~ but sadly I didn’t take notes when I was processing it. I often do that….process an image, really like the look and then realize I can’t remember how I got there. I recently found an old notebook and began to take notes on the steps I followed ~ just…
