    Outside My Window ~ 3.20.11

Outside My Window…is a fabulous first day of Spring.  Not as toasty warm as it could be….49°F at 3:15.  There is a light breeze but there is also plenty of sunshine and blue skies.  We do have a light cloud cover ~ kind of like a water color wash of white here and there, but it is definitely a day you can not complain about.  Beautiful now, not so much later this evening.  Our forecast calls for rain late tonight.  Tomorrow will be partly cloudy, windy and 71°F…chance of thunderstorms tomorrow evening.  Welcome to spring in southeastern Virginia. I am thinking…about the quest last night to see the moon as soon…

    Waiting For Dinner

Yesterday I heard a constant bird chirping outside the kitchen window so I went to investigate.  Sometimes it is a cat lurking about and the birds are sounding the alarm.  This time someone was letting me know I needed to fill the bird feeder…. My camera was close by so as the bird sang her song I grabbed it and took a couple of shots.  I knew if I walked over and attempted to raise the blinds…food or no food, she would have been gone so I focused in on her and hoped for the best.  Not too bad actually…and how cute is she posing for me?  I did go out and…

    Outside My Window ~ 3.13.11

Outside My Window…is a twilight sky as the sun sets on this amazing day.  It was beautiful….we had a high temperature of 70°F, mostly sunny and just a slight breeze….definitely a spring teaser.  I wandered around the yard this weekend ~ I should have been picking up some leaves and pulling some weeds, but I just looked.  I’m actually a little hesitant to start weeding right now ~ I’m afraid I may pull up a would be flower so I wait a little bit, until I’m certain it is a weed.  The violets are coming back nicely ~ but they are a type of weed so they are fairly hardy.  I have…

    Woo Hoo ~ I Won!

Last weekend I entered a contest sponsored by ColorInc Pro Lab…the prize was a Senior Posing Guide by Photography by Natalie B.  Guess who won?  🙂 I have entered online contests before on some of the blogs I follow….many contests.  So many I can’t give you a number….but this one, I won!  Best part, it is something I really wanted.  Along with the poses, you will notice there is a brief description of each pose and camera settings.  Perfect!  There are 70 poses in the book…spiral bound and perfectly sized to take along with you to photo shoots.  I didn’t have much hope in winning because, well…worst luck ever at winning things……but I decided to…

    10/52

Our theme for week 10 of Project 52 was Childhood Toys.  Many, many moons have passed since I was a child and unfortunately I have no toys from my childhood,  but I do have this Raggedy Ann doll that my paternal grandmother made for me when I was in my 20’s.   I didn’t have any children at the time, in fact she was beginning to wonder if I ever would.  She decided I needed a baby doll and I happily accepted when she offered.  I did finally have two daughters and their great-grandmother got the chance to see them before she left us. I pull out my Raggedy Ann every once in awhile….I smooth out…

    My Morning With The Hawks

This morning at work I had to run an errand which required a trip across the historic campus.  I enjoyed the walk this morning and had the campus practically to myself…students are out on spring break this week.  As I was walking back to my office, something swooped past me and landed in the tree in front of me…..a Cooper’s Hawk.  Suddenly I realized where I was on campus ~ well, let me clarify…after I saw the hawk and realized where I was at that moment, I knew this was one of the pair of Cooper’s Hawks that had taken up residence in one of the beech trees by Washington Hall…

    Scenes From Williamsburg

I was searching for a photograph this evening and ran across some images I had taken a little over a year ago during one of my walking lunches.  The above image is the gate that leads into the Bruton Parish Church  cemetery.  I love the trees around Williamsburg….huge, ancient and oddly shaped.  Moss covered brick walls are something else that is quite commonplace in the colonial area. This image is the Governor’s Palace…yes, your read that right, Palace.  From the Colonial Williamsburg website: “The word “Palace” was first used for the governor’s house about 1714. Whether the term was used as irony in reference to its expense, or simply to designate an official residence is debatable. …

    Outside My Window ~ 3.6.11

Outside My Window…is a gray, drizzly day.  Currently at 11:00 a.m., we are at 61°F and quite cloudy.  There is a chance of rain this morning but a greater one this afternoon when our temps will climb to about 64°F for the high and we will experience steady rains and thunder.  It sounds like a typical spring day even though the first day of spring is actually two weeks away.  Two Weeks!  I’m really looking forward to spring….I am so tired of the cold this year.  Trees and plants are coming back to life in full force….before we know it there will be warmer temps and sunny days….as well as the yellow/green…
