Outside My Window

Outside My Window ~ 5.16.10

Outside My Window…is a beautiful, sun shiny day right now.  Current temperature at 1:20 is in the mid 70’s  with rain expected later this afternoon or evening.  We also have a chance of thunderstorms later.  Thunderstorms have been the norm the past few evenings around here and last night was no exception.  The claps of thunder were so loud they woke me from a very deep sleep….and as each daughter came out of their room this morning they asked if I heard the thunder last night.  It was as if powerful explosions were going off right outside the house…..and then the rains came pouring down.

I am thinking…since I have set my rain barrel up, I know I could have filled 20 of these things easily with the rain from the thunderstorms that we have had.  I think I will sign up for a fall class and make another barrel.

I am thankful for…weekends.  Sometimes they can be hectic….but the one nice thing about them for me ~ I don’t have to go to work.  Any day you don’t have to go to work is a good day.

From the kitchen…was the Pioneer Woman’s Cinnamon Toast.  It is the closest thing to my grandmother’s cinnamon toast I have ever found.   I can remember sitting in her kitchen in Alabama, watching her make these slices of heaven when I was younger.  Now if I could only make biscuits like she did.  She made biscuits in the flour can.  No measuring….no bowls to clean….she would add her other ingredients, mix it up with the flour in the can and pull out a perfectly made ball of soon to be biscuits.  If I can ever learn to cook like my grandmother’s and my mother….I will have arrived in the kitchen!  🙂

I am going…to transplant a few more flowers I have into their respective pots.  I ran out of soil last weekend so a few were without permanent homes yet.  I also transplanted my new hydrangea I received for Mother’s Day.  I use to call them snowball plants….their flowers always reminded me of huge snowballs.  This was taken early this morning, before the clouds moved out.  It is now in the ground, ready to grow big and strong she said hopefully.

I am hoping…the weather is not as violent later today as it was last night.  That was some scary and powerful sounding thunder last night.  I’m more of the rumbling type thunder person….not so fond of violently loud claps and tremendous flashes of light ~ a little too much power for me thank you.

I am hearing…the ticking of my many clocks…..a scary movie on television…..my fingers on the keyboard….and some birds outside.  I think these are relatively young ones, still hanging close to home.

Around the house…well, let’s just say it will be good when I finish with the gardens outside so I can concentrate on the inside for a bit.  🙂

Plans for the week include…working from home on the 18th…..Cailin to the dentist…..working on some photos and some posts.  I would like to be caught up on everything, but that doesn’t seem to be happening lately.  I think I’m managing my time poorly….wondering where things got off kilter.

One of my favorite things…is how clean the air is after an evening with rain storms.  There are light winds, blue skies with high clouds (the white spider web type clouds) outside right now.  The sun is shining, but it is the softer, diffused spring glow rather than the harsh summer glow.  Everything is green……….no dust or pollen all over everything…..just clean.

A picture I’d like to share with you…first, a photo of my hibiscus plant.  This is a SOOC Raw shot.  I did tweak the clarity in RAW, but other than that no adjustments.

…and I have a photo of my snake ~ no, not the one I saw from the safety of my home, the one that attacked my feet.  Yes..yes…I know it is a stick but yesterday when the boyfriend played his joke, it was the BIGGEST SNAKE EVER!  This image was shot Raw as well.  I very rarely shoot  .jpeg any more.  On this image, I used  Jerry’s Vintage Colour Palette from Shadowhouse Creations.  I applied the color and method he had highlighted on his example, except I set the linear burn opacity to 50%.
