Storm Update
We survived a rather wild day and night here in Southeast Virginia on Thursday…..some a little dryer than others. There is massive flooding in my region and it is still raining, though not quite as hard as it was yesterday. I have an unconfirmed total of 5.17 inches thus far in my city. The winds have calmed down to 25mph sustained winds with only 35 to 40mph gusts. I say only because some gusts last night were reaching 75mph. I can’t remember when I have heard my windows rattle like they did yesterday. After the sun went down, I actually got quite worried ~ I think as long as you can see what…

Outside My Window ~ 11.08.2009
Outside My Window…is a beautiful morning ~ 59F with 62% humidity, skies are clear and a brilliant blue. I believe we are in what is considered the peak season for the fall colors in our area. I have noticed the colors on some trees are fading, but there is still much color and beauty out there. I have been to different locations and taken many photos. Hopefully I will be featuring some on here before too long. I am thinking…about how one tree can drop so many leaves. My backyard is covered in leaves, covered. But on another note, I found out what type of tree it is that drops…

Outside My Window ~ 10.25.09
Outside My Window…is quite cloudy….the temp is 59F with forecasted high of about 67F and cloudy skies today. Not quite as hot as it has been the past few days….yesterday was a balmy 82F. The one thing I don’t especially enjoy about fall and/or spring weather….you are never quite sure what type of clothes you will need for the day ~ sweaters or shorts? I am thinking…about how quickly this year has gone by. It doesn’t seem possible it is the final week of October…..it seems like I was just writing about the spring season not so long ago ~ now we are well into fall and heading towards winter. I…

Wet
I saw on The Weather Channel this morningwe are expected to have back to back coastal storms…….or Nor’easter as they are called. One affecting us today, another on Sunday. I explained a Nor’easter in this post, but the short and simple of it is a nor’easter is like tropical systems we get in the summer, except not so much tropical. They develop and produce cold northeasterly winds and like their summer counterparts, they can move real slow and dump days and days of rain. They generally develop on or off the coast of the mid-Atlantic. We have gotten our fair share of rain today…..with more expected this evening. I haven’t heard so much about strong winds…

Stuck In Traffic
Have you ever been cruising along the interstate….on your way home from work when suddenly you are there……..stuck in traffic. That happened to me this past Friday. As soon as I got on the interstate…..there they were up ahead…..the cursed red lights. It was going to be a long ride home………. Traffic was barely moving at this point. Now, I could have gotten irritated and agitated. Instead I thought this could be a good thing. Have you ever been driving down the interstate and noticed something you wouldn’t mind taking a photo of? Get stuck in traffic and you can do just that. I pass this overpass…..a pretty view. Onward I crept…..slower than…

Outside My Window ~ 9.13.09
Outside My Window…is bright and sunny, a very nice 73F, light winds ~ enough to make my wind chimes sing to me ~ and 77% humidity. Last week we were experiencing fall type weather, which included lots of rain. I heard one day we got almost 5 inches of rain in a relatively short period of time. It just poured……and poured. We had two separate non-tropical systems park off the coast for a period. Winds weren’t too bad either time….or the ones I experienced anyway. It is forecasted to be in the lowers 80’s today….by mid week, in the upper 80’s and then we will cool down again. It appears…

Outside My Window ~ 7.26.09
Outside My Window…is extremely warm and very humid. At 7:43 a.m., it was already 78F with 80% humidity. It is so oppressive outside I cut my run short. The combination of the heat and humidity made for a very hot run. And I’m sitting inside today….it was my intent to sit outside, but I thought I was never going to cool down so thought I better sit inside and do so today. Our forecasted high today is 95F with a chance of thunderstorms…..hmmm, with that much humidity outside right now, I’m not surprised. I am thinking…about how hungry I am. I think part of the reason the heat and humidity…

Outside My Window ~ 7.12.09
Outside My Window…actually, I am sitting on my back patio ‘outside my window’……errr, sliding glass doors. I have finished my 2.25 run on this beautiful, 78 degree, fairly muggy morning. And oh yes, it was hot when I was running. As I said, I am now in my tiny backyard enjoying a cup of blackberry sage iced tea (in my cool Catalina Island cup ~ ahhhh, Avalon ~ thanks Doo!) as I cool down. I thought “why not” sit out here and do my thing because after the run this morning, it actually feels nice and cool sitting here. 🙂 I am thinking…why a couple of my tomato leaves on…

Farmers Market
I went to the Farmer’s Market today……Dean and Don’s Farmer’s Market. I had not been to this market in quite some time so I thought I would stop in. I think I may make a habit of doing so in the future as well………. I picked up a few things while there…..the produce looked great ~ They had melons everywhere….. And green peanuts……….which means boiled peanuts! I made some this evening……… I could have spent a fortune on home grown goodies……..but I managed to keep it reasonable. 🙂

Estate Sales
This past Saturday I was up bright and early for my run and then off to a couple of estate sales I found online. I knew one would more than likely have a wonderful view of the James River, and it did not disappoint…….. As you can see, it was a beautiful morning and the view was amazing. The little spit of land you can see across the James River is part of Ft. Eustis Army Base. What looks like buildings are actually ships….part of the Ghost Fleet that is anchored in the James River. After I made my purchases, I asked permission to take some photos of the view…
