Outside My Window ~ 10.25.09
Outside My Window…is quite cloudy….the temp is 59F with forecasted high of about 67F and cloudy skies today. Not quite as hot as it has been the past few days….yesterday was a balmy 82F. The one thing I don’t especially enjoy about fall and/or spring weather….you are never quite sure what type of clothes you will need for the day ~ sweaters or shorts? I am thinking…about how quickly this year has gone by. It doesn’t seem possible it is the final week of October…..it seems like I was just writing about the spring season not so long ago ~ now we are well into fall and heading towards winter. I…

Wet
I saw on The Weather Channel this morningwe are expected to have back to back coastal storms…….or Nor’easter as they are called. One affecting us today, another on Sunday. I explained a Nor’easter in this post, but the short and simple of it is a nor’easter is like tropical systems we get in the summer, except not so much tropical. They develop and produce cold northeasterly winds and like their summer counterparts, they can move real slow and dump days and days of rain. They generally develop on or off the coast of the mid-Atlantic. We have gotten our fair share of rain today…..with more expected this evening. I haven’t heard so much about strong winds…

Outside My Window ~ 10.04.09
Outside My Window…is a beautiful morning with blue skies and no clouds in sight. The temps now are at about 68F at 9:45 a.m. When I walked out the door this morning at 6:15, it was around 61F and dark. I was off to Buckroe Beach this morning to renew my spirit and take some sunrise photos. When I arrived, it was at that moment in the morning when it is neither dark nor light…..that morning twilight period. Beautiful. In front of me, a sunrise waiting to happen, at my back was a beautiful full moon that had recently risen over the horizon. There were not many people around….a few…

A Distraction
“I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow.” Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With The Wind I feel like Scarlett O”Hara right now……..I don’t want to think about computer issues and the fact that the web site is not cooperating at all. So I will think about it tomorrow……or maybe even this weekend. I have decided a distraction is in order…….and I have selected my place of employment as the distractor. You see, I work at a very old place……so old in fact that many of our founding fathers attended school here. Yup, we are downright ancient ~ and I have…

Outside My Window ~ 9.13.09
Outside My Window…is bright and sunny, a very nice 73F, light winds ~ enough to make my wind chimes sing to me ~ and 77% humidity. Last week we were experiencing fall type weather, which included lots of rain. I heard one day we got almost 5 inches of rain in a relatively short period of time. It just poured……and poured. We had two separate non-tropical systems park off the coast for a period. Winds weren’t too bad either time….or the ones I experienced anyway. It is forecasted to be in the lowers 80’s today….by mid week, in the upper 80’s and then we will cool down again. It appears…

Road Trip ~ Part I
While it has been a month since I took my trip to South Carolina, I have yet to post my photos from the trip as I promised. I thought I should break it up into different posts because there are quite a few photos I would like to share with you. When I planned the trip, I decided I wanted to take a road less traveled to the interstate. Well, actually the road is a four lane route and fairly well traveled, but it takes you through Suffolk, Franklin and Emporia. There are a few other smaller towns in between these that require you to slow down to 35 mph when…

Outside My Window ~ 8.30.09
Outside My Window…is a very warm and muggy Sunday morning, closing in on afternoon. A bit of a late start this morning. At 11:30 it is 82F with 71% humidity. Not such a bad morning, if you don’t move while you are outside. The Weather Channel is forecasting thunderstorms for today, tonight and rain tomorrow. I have found myself wishing for cooler temps more often lately. I look forward to the cooler mornings and evenings of fall. I do not look forward to the nor’easters that follow. What is this odd language she speaks you ask…….this nor’easter. Well, a nor’easter is kind of like summer’s tropical systems, except not so…

Outside My Window ~ 8.23.09
Outside My Window…is a decent morning. Temps are 81F with 68% humidity at 11:00 this morning. Yes, it is quite toasty and muggy outside. What was beautiful, blue, sun shiny skies is now filling with clouds. We are forecasted today to have thunderstorms this afternoon. This is pretty typical weather for this time of year actually. Yesterday afternoon we had an enormous amount of rain from the front that passed through….the same one that kept Hurricane Bill away from the coast. I am thinking…about my things to do list…….and how grateful I am that Alanna remembered the time she got caught in a rip current when we were at Nags…

Outside My Window ~ 7.5.09
Outside My Window…is cloudy and about 75 degrees. I think we are at our forecasted high for the day. They are predicting thunderstorms and rain….possibly one to two inches of rain. It is a bit eerie…..the “quiet before the storm” eerie…..outside right now. Kind of still, quiet ~ no activity in the neighborhood at the moment which adds to the eerie feeling as well. I am thinking…I’m going to need a step-ladder to see my sunflowers if they keep growing like they have been. The Lemon Queen sunflowers I received from the Great Sunflower Project are gigantic! They grow at an amazing rate, especially lately. The flowers are now beginning…

Summer in Southeast Virginia
Typical summer afternoon in Southeast Virginia…….I’m leaving work to beautiful blue skies and cotton candy clouds. Here is a glimpse of my drive down the Colonial Parkway after work. I was on my way to Gloucester to pick up Alanna from a friends house. I noticed the clouds getting larger……. When I arrived in Gloucester, the sun was shining bright through the pine tree….. By the time we arrived home, the clouds were building and the skies were darkening even more, but amidst the dark sky, a rainbow. Actually, it was a double rainbow, but the second one had faded so that it didn’t photograph. …
