    And So It Begins….

I took this image a few weeks ago before a nor’Easter came into our area.  This was the night before the rains came.  We have another one that has set up in our area…..actually I suppose it started sometime during the early morning hours.  It is around 3:00 pm now and it has been raining steadily since I got up at 5:30 this morning.  This is what I heard we can expect from this storm…….what was once Hurricane Ida is now located over Florida.  It will venture out into the Atlantic, where sitting off the coast is an area of low pressure which probably wouldn’t become anything to worry about on its own.  But it is expected…

    Happy Samhain

Long ago at the end of the third and final harvest, the Celts celebrated Samhain.  It was a time to commune with and remember the dead, a celebration of the eternal cycle of reincarnation.  One of the possible sources for the origin of the name Samhain is from the Irish Gaelic word “samhraidh read”, which means the summer’s end.  It marked the end of summer and the beginning of winter for the Celts.  The day after Samhain is the official date of the Celtic New Year.  This day was chosen as the date to celebrate because it was at this time the sun was at it’s lowest point on the horizon…

    Wet

I saw on The Weather Channel this morningwe are expected to have back to back coastal storms…….or Nor’easter as they are called.  One affecting us today, another on Sunday.   I explained a Nor’easter in this post, but the short and simple of it is a nor’easter is like tropical systems we get in the summer, except not so much tropical.  They develop and produce cold northeasterly winds and like their summer counterparts, they can move real slow and dump days and days of rain.  They generally develop on or off the coast of the mid-Atlantic.   We have gotten our fair share of rain today…..with more expected this evening.  I haven’t heard so much about strong winds…

    Yet Another Step….

My big girl took yet another step towards becoming an adult…..she finally found her first job.  I was worried about her getting one actually…..I didn’t let her work while she was in school, I thought it was more important she concentrate on her school work rather than worry with an after school job.  When she graduated, she decided she didn’t want to go back to school right away, but wanted to work and get some “real world” experience.  While I would like to see her further her education, it is ultimately her decision and I will respect whatever she decides.  I have given her my opinion on the matter, now…

    Where are the details people!

As many of you know, I work for the College of William and Mary.  We received a memo from our department head that said…… Due to recent events, we have discovered that not everyone may realize what constitutes violence at work.  With that in mind, everyone will be required to attend a mandatory meeting on work place violence. The memo then went on to detail times on a specific day that we could chose to attend.  But wait…..what is this “Due to recent events”?  What events?  Why didn’t I know about these events?  Granted I’m a ‘bean counter’ and work in an office so I don’t get out and about like most…

    A Distraction

“I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow.” Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With The Wind I feel like Scarlett O”Hara right now……..I don’t want to think about computer issues and the fact that the web site is not cooperating at all.  So I will think about it tomorrow……or maybe even this weekend.  I have decided a distraction is in order…….and I have selected my place of employment as the distractor.  You see, I work at a very old place……so old in fact that many of our founding fathers attended school here.  Yup, we are downright ancient ~ and I have…

    Morning Glories

Kate from  A Picture a Day and Chronicles of a Country Girl has been experimenting with collages recently.  She has inspired me to post one of my own……a small collection of my morning glories.  I have taken these at various times.  If you click on the image, you will get a  larger view.  Check out the flower in the upper left ~ I didn’t even notice the spider/cob web surrounding that flower until I began to process it.  I wasn’t actually that close when I took the photo so I missed it during the actual shot.  I thought it looked pretty cool.    Don’t you like it when you get unexpected surprises after taking a…

    Stuck In Traffic

Have you ever been cruising along the interstate….on your way home from work when suddenly you are there……..stuck in traffic.  That happened to me this past Friday.  As soon as I got on the interstate…..there they were up ahead…..the cursed red lights.  It was going to be a long ride home………. Traffic was barely moving at this point.  Now, I could have gotten irritated and agitated.  Instead I thought this could be a good thing.  Have you ever been driving down the interstate and noticed something you wouldn’t mind taking a photo of?  Get stuck in traffic and you can do just that.  I pass this overpass…..a pretty view.  Onward I crept…..slower than…

    Road Trip ~ Conclusion

As I conclude the tale of our road trip, I wanted to share a few more random photos with you.  There was a full moon during my visit and try as I might, I was unable to get a photo of one that I was really happy with while it was dark….but I did get one early in the morning on the day we left… I’m still a work in progress when it comes to moon shots, but I was pretty happy with this one.  🙂    There were also some pretty amazing sunsets…. There was a shopping day while we were there of course.  Seriously, have you ever known teen aged girls to go somewhere…

Road Trip ~ Part IV ~ Final Resting

I stumbled upon a very old cemetary while  in South Carolina last month.  I like old cemetaries…..they whisper to me ~ especially when they are in the woods.  It actually was a glimpse of a headstone as I drove down an old road that caught my eye.  This road was off the beaten path so I knew it must be an old cemetary, but what I didn’t know was how old.  My oldest daughter joined me on this sunny afternoon for our visit to the cemetary.  There is a small pull off for vehicles and a sign warning visitors there is a state law which prohibits visitors from tampering with or removing any items from a cemetary…
